How to write a short critical review:
In Web Surfing with Us, you can find many articles about education in Iran. To show the situation of Kanoon in the whole debate, you can write short critical reviews on these articles. Following are some steps that by taking them you can write a short and effective essay.

a) Try to answer one specific question, and use the information of that paper, as the evidences that can back up your argument. For example, if you are writing an essay on UNDP report, one topic can be 'How Kanoon's activities are in line with the educational development, in Iran'.

b) First, design the structure of your essay, then start writing, while using the HDI report material as a supporting evidence. One structure can be as bellow:

Aim: state your aim in the first sentence.

Definition of the key points: define the key words in your aim sentence. I strongly recommend you use the UNDP definition for its concepts, paraphrase them, and cite to the report.

Big Picture: in one or two sentences draw the overall picture of the situation. For example, if you are writing about 'How Kanoon's activities are in line with the educational development trend, in Iran', you can write about the Iran's educational situation, and its positive trend during past 30 years, and compare it with other similar countries.

State your argument: In two and three sentences, try to state your new argument. For example, in the case of Kanoon, you can write about Kanoon's activities during past 20 years and link them with Iran's educational trend.

Conclusion: In one sentence, wrap up your argument by pointing to your aim, in a paraphrased sentence. Try to write your conclusion in a way that complete the whole argument.

Tables: Use the table and figures, when it is supporting the points that you have made in your essay.

c) After writing the first draft, go through it again and correct the grammatical, punctuation, and spelling mistakes.

ORWELL’S SIX RULES FOR WRITERS

"When it comes to writing advice, a good place to start is George Orwell’s essay Politics and the English language, in which he provides six simple rules for all writers of English. If an author were to follow only six guidelines in their writings, these may well be the best six. As Orwell notes in his essay, simply following these rules won't make for good writing, but it is a step in the right direction. In particular, he is a vociferous critic of bad writing and the way that it has spread by imitation. He argues that writers must think for themselves and say what they have to say in the clearest way possible, without obfuscating their meaning with excessive verbiage!"
