Personal Tutor

Kanoon brings together the Iranian educational elites, young and talented university students, best Iranian teachers and school principals in an effective and agile atmosphere. Although Mr. Kazem Ghalamchi is known as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Iran, Kanoon's success would have been impossible without its human resources, namely its Personal Tutors (called Poshtiban). Among different roles in Kanoon, the role of Personal Tutor is of high importance. Kanoon invented this role to stay in touch with its half-a-million family of participants around the country. Personal Tutors support students like a teacher, friend, parent, and educational consultant as they directly deal with students’ challenges. Every week, each Personal Tutor calls his/her students and asks about their educational problems.

Mrs. Shima Rahimi, a Kanoon Personal Tutor says about the relationship with students:

"Who listen to me? How listen to me?
Do you agree that dialogue about studying skills reveals the possible ways to improve studying and achieve success by solving educational problems? As evidence, for many students asking them about their studying methods encourages them and increases their motive to perform better. Kanoon Farhangi Amoozesh creates an opportunity for students to ask their questions and receive guideline based on Kanoon programs. This excellent relation with each student is developed by Personal Tutors, who call every student, listen to their problems and guide them every week."

Following, one of the Kanoon Personal Tutors, Mr. Ramezanifard reflects on his role:

"What does Personal Tutor do in Kanoon?
As a Personal Tutor, my main tasks include talking with pupils and guiding them how to adapt with the multiple-choice tests. Students are rarely familiar with this type of questioning before their pre-university year. I also help them solve problems that they may encounter. In addition, I evaluate their transcripts, and based on my own experience, I try to give them some practical methods to improve their scores. Altogether, a Personal Tutor in Kanoon makes the situation a way easier for the pupils to pass Concour."

Here, is what one of our Personal Tutors, Mrs. Marziye Foroughpour says about her role:

"In Ghalamchi Educational Foundation, Personal Tutor (or Poshtiban) plays four roles, which are: a) being a friend, b) teaching the students, c) providing students with educational consultancy, and d) managing them. As a Personal Tutor, I like the role of a teacher, because I can go along with the students. I can teach them the steps that they should take, and guide them whether the schedule is easy or hard during two weeks between Developmental Assessments. All in all, when I am in the role of a teacher, the student feels that I am a true companion, whom they really needs a true one.
Let me ask you, what role would you would played, if you were a Personal Tutor?"

Here, Mr Bahman Kazemi a Kanoon's teacher describes the role of Classroom Personal Tutor (called Classroom Poshtiban):

Personal Tutor is usually a university student or a graduate, who is responsible for supervising the students through his/her connection with the principal of the institute, the teachers and the students’ parents. In addition, he performs a class called work-inside-class-; after the normal teaching hours in school to solve some exercises for the students and actively engage them with the problems. This is because the teachers cannot manage to solve all the problems during their normal hours. Importantly, this class enables Poshtibans to improve their educational skills such as problem solving, lesson planning, and developing a good relation with the students. This close contact with the school environment also provides a good chance for Poshtibans to get practical experience. I personally believe we can never separate Poshtibans from Kanoon. These young people can become the best teachers in future years! Bahman Kazemi, 12/25/ 2013
