May 2014: Houston Defender -“20 Years: KIPP schools prepare students for success”
The Knowledge is Power Program – better known as KIPP – has reason to celebrate. The KIPP network of public charter schools now serves 50,000 students, 86 percent of which are low-income and 95 percent of which are Black or Hispanic. The results have been impressive. Nationally, more than 90 percent of KIPP middle school students have graduated from high school, and more than 80 percent of KIPP alumni have gone on to college.
