Concour

The Iranian University Entrance Exam known as the "Concours" is a standardised test used as one of the means to gain admission to higher education in Iran.
In Iran, as in many other countries where a university entrance exam is the sole criterion for student selection, limited space and resources have restricted many talented and enthusiastic applicants seeking access to higher education. Consequently, the phenomenon of the university entrance exam has caused discontent and conflict.
Since 1993, Iranian top ranked universities have been welcoming Kanoon pupils. Every year more number of students have been using Kanoon educational facilities. Kanoon achievements in empowering students learning style are evident in its students result in Concour. Here you can see a part of Iran educational history, since 2001.

What is Concour?

Ali Dandehbar a Kanoon's student says:

I`m Ali Dandehbar, 18 years old, from “Shahre_Rey”. My field of study is science، and beside school I am studying in Kanoon’s Shahre_Rey branch.

My article is about “Concour” .I would like to start with Concour, as a word. As a matter of fact, this word is familiar for all people, who are living in Iran, especially the students. The word of Concour is derived from “conquer” that means “to overcome” or “to win” over some thing.

Yes, that’s it. Unfortunately, most of the people do not know the meaning of this word.

Concour in Iran is one of the most important examinations, in which all students from all over the country attend, and only some of them would be selected to enter into university. Students can take part in Concour after studying Pre-University. In fact this exam is like a bridge that takes you in a certain university.

As far as I know, Concour is not held only in Iran. I think this exam takes place in many countries، but I guess the method is different. in Iran, students go to university after a year of pre-university at high school. In my opinion Concour is one of the best screening methods, which takes place during three following days at a specific time, every year.

  • Concour of Math and Art: 27th of June (6th of Tir in Iranian Calendar)
  • Concour of Science and Foreign Languages: 28th of June (7th of Tir in Iranian Calendar)
  • Concour of Humanities and Social Sciences: 29th of June (8th of Tir in Iranian Calendar).

Concour examinations take four hours, during which one hour and a quarter is allocated for “general courses”, and two hours and half is for “core subjects”. That’s all that I could tell you, as the subject is too broad.

Have a great time,

Ali Dandehbar a Kanoon Pupil, Dec. 2013
